Use Windows 8 M1 forever
« on: April 14, 2011, 09:37:14 AM »
Just found this on Facebook this morning and it's a guide on how to activate and remove watermark from Windows 8 Milestone 1.

Quote
Download this zip, edit your install.wim's spp folder (it is in System32).

There are 3 folders inside the spp folder:
1. plugins-signed-manifest (similar to that name) - DO NOT edit or delete this as SPP cannot function without the M1 versions.
2. store - Delete this
3. tokens - Delete this

Now for the 2 folders you deleted, paste in the replacements in the zip file.

Now, for good measures with permissions, make sure that the spp folder and all child permissions do not interfere/cause issues (I just set Everyone=Full).

Rebuild your WIM and ISO, and you should start in grace with no watermark or timebomb (so no need to change date), and you will be KMS ready. Treat activation just like Win 7 SP1 Enterprise (AKA use your KMS activator/method of choice).

No problem. I haven't tried it myself yet as it's been a while downloading from Hotfile but as soon as i installed it I'll post screenshots of it working.

That's a shame! You'll have to wait till the public beta.

I'm using the other method to test Win8. (I removed the Time Bomb and KMS Activate )  but what ever works that is the main thing ....
Several things I like about M1 but many things I did/do not like.
??? ??? One is the failure to accept much older devices.... yet the failure to accept them also allows you to have an instant.
Black SOD. Yes my BSOD was Black/White. not BLUE.
:D :D  I did like the Instant Repair and continue to boot.
??? ???the icon in the taskbar was annoying as hell every time you had to reboot  or boot. (on BSOD)
Reading the BSOD was the only way to find the problem... even tho Win8 updated and installed the proper Driver... it was the MODEM... so fix for BSOD was open control panel and DISABLE the MODEM... Do not uninstall because it simply found it, installed the driver than gave you a BSOD.
??? ??? (Annoy WTH is M$ thinking) fix it once then DUH ok, that part needs lots of WORK.
??? ??? every time you get a UPDATE from M$ it cans all that you saved like THEMES, and wallpaper,  :-[ so annoying as hell again click an reinstall the wallpaper of your choice.... so I started making shortcuts to all the REDOs...
