For those that missed it, Windows 10 will ship with two browsers: Project Spartan and Internet Explorer.
In a nutshell, Microsoft is planning to keep Internet Explorer around for compatibility reasons, primarily for businesses that have older web-apps that require it. Ultimately, Internet Explorer will go away, with IE11 being the last version to bear the old branding. IE11 will have mainstream support until January 8, 2018 and extended support until January 10, 2023. IE11 will be updated with security patches, but you shouldn't expect any new features to roll out.
So, IE11 will still be around, but Microsoft is not going to make it easy for users to find.
When Windows 10 releases, Spartan will be the default browsing experience. I can attest that, even in its early stages, Spartan is fantastic and Microsoft has done good things, but most businesses can't make a switch like this overnight.
We already know that Internet Explorer will be included in Windows 10, but now it seems only as a memorial where it can be visited from time-to-time. With the new updating features coming in Windows 10, one errant update could wipe out all vestiges of Internet Explorer from memory.
