Windows 10 Build 9901 Comes With New Aero Settings
« on: December 16, 2014, 02:47:40 PM »
Although a fair fraction of users that upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 wanted Microsoft to implement Aero UI effects in the new operating system, the company stuck to its guns.

But despite this new approach to the user interface, some features of Aero continued to be available in the modern operating systems — with no option to turn them off. Aero Snap in particular, a feature that allowed desktop users to run two windows side by side, or snap them to one side of the screen.

Some, of course, wanted to turn it off.

And it appears that the recently leaked build 9901 of Windows 10 comes with a simple option that allows disabling Aero Snap with a simple button.

The “Windowing” option on the “System” panel in Settings offers an option called “Enable Aero Snap”, and it can be simply clicked or tapped to turn it off or on.

Is this is the beginning of the end for Aero on Windows 10?

Who knows?

Microsoft is so far focused on the flat UI, and seems keen to bring it to the desktop side of the operating system. This simple new option in the settings panel just makes it easier for users that want nothing to do with Aero.

Do bear in mind though that it is still possible to disable Aero Snap on Windows 8, it just requires a lot more steps than on this new leaked build.
